I hope you enjoyed Thanksgiving and the holiday weekend. Our son, Jeff, was in town from Chicago for the weekend so we were busy doing family activities and starting to get things ready for Christmas, too. We are also getting quite excited about our grandchild’s arrival sometime in the next couple of weeks.
In school, we are beginning the 3rd unit in Benchmark Literacy with a focus on sequencing events and determining text importance. Students are finishing their personal narratives and working on the final copy. We will write our own version of the 12 Days of Winter (a revised version of The 12 Days of Christmas) before winter break. In math, we are starting a unit on 3-digit numbers and strategies for adding 2-digit numbers. Students have been learning new math games, too. Thank you to Mrs. Carter and Mrs. Devereaux for guiding math stations on Thursdays.
Last week, students performed a Reader’s Theater as the wrap up for Unit 2 in Benchmark. With only a 3-day week. we didn’t have a lot of time to practice, but I think you will enjoy them anyway. Students are working on using expression and reading fluently as they read aloud.
As a teacher, I am continually learning new things, too. I’ve been trying to upload the videos to the blog using my I-pad, over the past few days with no success. I have learned the best way to do that is actually on a desktop computer. So, now that that’s done…you will see more of them in the future.
Lastly, just a reminder to label your child’s winter gear. Many coats look the same, the lunchroom hallway gets quite full of coats, and many students are getting the wrong one that looks just like theirs. Thanks, much!!
